Trump: Repeal Will Revive the Auto Sector
Inside the Oval Office on Thursday, Donald Trump framed the rollback as essential for American competitiveness.
The president said the 2009 ruling was “a disastrous Obama era policy that severely damaged the American auto industry and massively drove up prices for American consumers”.
He went further, attacking broader Democratic climate ambitions.
“This radical rule became the legal foundation for the Green New Scam, one of the greatest scams in history,” added the Republican president.
Administration officials say removing the requirement could save more than $1 trillion overall. They also claim automakers would see expenses fall sharply.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that reversing the regulation would reduce automobile manufacturers’ spending by $2,400 per vehicle.
Obama Breaks Silence
Obama, who rarely comments on his successors, issued a pointed warning about the potential fallout.
“Without it, we’ll be less safe, less healthy and less able to fight climate change all so the fossil fuel industry can make even more money,” he wrote on X.
His remarks immediately energized environmental organizations preparing court challenges.
